What is the city's greatest improvement need?
Since 1985, America has celebrated July as the nation's official Park and Recreation Month. Each July, the National Recreation and Park Association encourages recreation facilities and parks across the country to kick off summer programs, promote outdoor physical recreation and pull together to make their outdoor space a thriving center of community activity.
Charleston Lake is a valuable recreational asset for the City of Charleston attracting anglers from across the region. There are a few regulations that those who utilize Charleston Lake should be aware of. Ordinance 74-2 addresses the use of motors on the lake stating; "with the exception of an electric trolling motor, it shall, hereafter be unlawful for any person or persons to use any outboard motor or other type motor upon any boat, vessel or other floating apparatus upon the said Charleston Lake." Ordinance 08-05 prohibits the use of certain fishing devices within the Charleston Lake. The items which are prohibited and may not be used within the confines of Charleston Lake are trot lines, jugs or floats with a line or lines suspended and allowed to float freely, limb lines, yoyos, or any other fishing device other than one that is designed to be hand held and designed to allow the retrieval of the fishing line and bait or lure by hand. Copies of both of these ordinances are available at City Hall.
Each week during the moth of July a different aspect of the Charleston Parks and Recreation Department will be highlighted. Next week... the Charleston Skate Park which receives new equipment this week!!
